On the Cover

Disneyland.
Fun Fact: This premiere issue would
be the only one published during Walt Disney's lifetime where he appeared on the
cover.
Inside Highlights
"Cruise of the Eagle Includes Walt on its
First Pacific Journey" (Page 1)
Walt is a guest on board the Coast Guard
sailing vessel Eagle, which was on its first ever Pacific cruise.
The Eagle is normally home ported in New London, CT, home of the Coast
Guard Academy, and is used to train cadets on the traditional ways of
navigating the sea.
Fun Fact: Spanning 295 feet in
length, the square rigged barque has nearly 22,000 square feet of
canvas.
"New Miss Ambassador Takes Reins as 2nd Great
Decade Begins" (Page 2)
Profile of Connie Swanson, Disneyland's Miss
Ambassador. She succeeded Julia Reihm, the very first Miss
Ambassador, who was appointed during Disneyland's Tencennial
celebration.
"Polaris Missile Spawned Disney's
'Audio-Animatronics'" (Page 6)
The article likens the technology behind
Great Moments With Mr. Lincoln and The Enchanted Tiki Room to
that of the Cold War era, submarine-based missile. Makes you
wonder if Lincoln's head isn't actually a small nuclear warhead.
"Four New Attractions Set
Summer Openings" (Page 7)
Disney News takes its first look at New Orleans Square,
the Pirates of the Caribbean, It's a Small World and
The Primeval World, all scheduled to open in the Summer of 1966.

historical memorabilia than ever has been unveiled at once in the Magic
Kingdom."
